Description
What is a 2 Zone Panel?
In fire safety, a “Zone” is a specific area of a building. A 2-zone panel allows you to divide a building into two distinct sections (e.g., Ground Floor and First Floor).
-
Identification: If a fire starts, the panel tells you which zone is affected, but not the exact room or detector (unlike more expensive addressable systems).
-
Capacity: Usually supports up to 20–30 detectors (smoke/heat) or manual call points per zone.
### Key Components & Functions
| Component | Function |
| Control Unit | The “brain” that monitors the sensors and activates the alarms. |
| Initiating Devices | Smoke detectors, heat sensors, and manual call points (break-glass units). |
| Notification Devices | Hooters, sirens, and strobe lights to alert occupants. |
| Battery Backup | Typically uses two 12V rechargeable batteries to keep the system running during power cuts. |
Common Operating Modes
-
Normal Mode: The system monitors the zones. The “Power On” green LED is lit.
-
Fire Alarm: When a detector is triggered, the Red Fire LED for that specific zone flashes, and the hooters activate.
-
Fault Mode: A Yellow LED indicates an issue like a “Zone Open” (broken wire) or “Battery Low.”
-
Silence/Reset: * Silence: Stops the hooters but keeps the fire LED on while you investigate.
-
Reset: Clears the alarm and returns the system to normal (only works after the smoke/heat is cleared).
-
### Installation Basics for your Shop
Since you are based in Chittorgarh and aiming for the Indian market, here are a few technical tips for your products:
-
End of Line (EOL): Every zone circuit must end with an EOL Resistor (commonly 1K or 4.7K ohms). This allows the panel to monitor if the wiring has been cut.
-
Cable Type: Fire-resistant (Armored or FRLS) cables are recommended to ensure the system works even during a fire.
-
Placement: The panel should be installed in a clean, dry area (like a reception or security desk) where the indicators are easily visible.
